Israeli Drone Strike Kills Palestinian Journalist in Gaza

Date:

Gaza, Palestine – Web Desk: Al Jazeera journalist Mohammad Weshah was killed in an Israeli drone strike while covering events in Gaza on Wednesday. Weshah, a correspondent for Al Jazeera Mubasher, was traveling in a vehicle along the coastal Rashid Street in western Gaza City when the attack occurred, setting the vehicle ablaze and causing his death on the spot.

Al Jazeera condemned the incident as a deliberate violation of international law and journalistic principles, stating the attack was “not accidental” and aimed at intimidating journalists and silencing the truth.

According to the Gaza Government Media Office, at least 262 journalists have been killed in Israeli attacks since October 2023. Despite the declared ceasefire, Israeli military operations continue, with nearly 2,000 reported violations recorded so far.

The Gaza Health Ministry reported that over 72,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 171,000 injured since the onset of hostilities, with hundreds of casualties occurring even after the ceasefire.

International organizations and press freedom groups have been urged to condemn the attack, hold those responsible accountable, and ensure protection for journalists operating in Gaza.
