Beirut, Lebanon – Web Desk: Despite a recently announced ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, Israeli military strikes have continued in southern Lebanon, according to international media reports.
On Thursday, Israeli forces reportedly carried out fresh bombardment in southern areas, prompting warnings for residents south of the Zahrani River not to return to their homes due to ongoing security risks.
Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health said that eight people were killed and eight others injured in post-ceasefire strikes. The casualties reportedly included three children and two women.
Separately, a United Nations peacekeeping position was struck by mortar fire, resulting in the death of a wounded personnel member.
In response, Hezbollah reportedly launched rocket attacks targeting Israeli forces, further escalating tensions despite the ceasefire understanding.
Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem condemned talks with Israel, calling negotiations “shameful” and warning that continued Israeli actions would not go unanswered.
The ceasefire was brokered with U.S. mediation, with both sides previously agreeing to continue dialogue in upcoming negotiations scheduled for 22 June.
