Maldives – Web Desk: Pakistan’s national football team ended a 961-day winless streak with a commanding 3-0 victory over hosts Maldives in the Diamond Jubilee Four-Nation Tournament.
After a goalless first half in Malé, Pakistan broke the deadlock in the 54th minute through young forward Umar Nawaz, who scored in just his second international appearance. Abdul Samad Arshad doubled the lead in the 84th minute before Haroon Hamid added a third goal three minutes later to seal a dominant win.
The result marked Pakistan’s first international victory over Maldives since 1991 and their first win in any competition since October 17, 2023, against Cambodia.
Earlier, Pakistan had drawn against Bangladesh in their opening match, entering the fixture under pressure to secure a win to stay in contention.
Pakistan will play their final group match against Afghanistan on June 7, with a potential final scheduled for June 10 if they finish in the top two.
