Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claims it issued a warning to a U.S. naval vessel near the Strait of Hormuz, ordering it to turn back, according to Iranian state-linked reports. The IRGC has also released video footage allegedly showing the encounter.
Iranian authorities said the video captures communications warning the vessel’s crew that it was their “final warning,” and that failure to change course could result in the use of force.
The development comes amid heightened regional tensions following claims of expanded maritime restrictions and increased U.S. military activity in the Gulf region. Earlier reports have suggested that Washington has taken steps affecting navigation linked to Iranian waters, further escalating friction between the two sides.
The IRGC stated that any unauthorized military vessel approaching the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz would be treated as a violation of ceasefire-related understandings and could face a “firm response.”
Officials in Tehran also reiterated that Iran maintains full operational control over the strategic waterway, supported by its navy and IRGC maritime forces, along with what they described as advanced maritime management systems.
Security analysts warn that such confrontational exchanges, especially when accompanied by video releases, could significantly increase regional tensions and pose risks to global energy supplies, as the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical oil transit chokepoints.
