Web Desk: Iran-US talks shift to Switzerland as delegations prepare for nuclear talks

Iran and the United States are preparing to begin a new round of high-level diplomatic negotiations in Switzerland following reports of a proposed memorandum of understanding between the two countries, according to Al Jazeera.

The upcoming Iran-US talks in Switzerland are expected to focus on key issues including Iran’s nuclear programme, potential sanctions relief, and broader economic cooperation between Tehran and Washington. Officials say the talks would begin after the formal signing of the proposed memorandum, which is seen as a preliminary step toward structured negotiations.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi said the next phase of dialogue will commence once the agreement framework is finalized, adding that Tehran aims to move discussions into a more formal diplomatic process.

The Iranian delegation will be led by Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, while the United States is expected to be represented by Vice President JD Vance, according to the report. Their participation highlights the high-level nature of the expected negotiations.

Iranian officials said the Switzerland talks aim to translate the proposed memorandum into actionable agreements covering nuclear oversight, sanctions easing, and possible economic engagement. Analysts say any progress could mark a significant diplomatic shift after years of strained relations between the two countries.

Global attention is now focused on the upcoming Switzerland meeting, which could determine whether both sides are able to move toward a more stable and structured diplomatic framework.
