Iran Strikes Saudi Petrochemical Targets After Asaluyeh Attacks

Date:

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Web Desk: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a major retaliation against Saudi Arabia’s petrochemical infrastructure on Tuesday, following reported attacks on Iran’s Asaluyeh energy facilities.

The IRGC said it targeted industrial hubs in Jubail, a key center for Saudi Arabia’s downstream energy sector, using medium-range missiles and multiple suicide drones. Struck facilities included the Sadara petrochemical complex, a joint venture of Saudi Aramco and Dow Chemical, along with other plants linked to SABIC and ExxonMobil.

Saudi Arabia’s defence ministry reported intercepting and destroying seven ballistic missiles heading toward the eastern region, with debris falling near energy installations. The ministry did not immediately confirm damage to the plants.

Reuters-verified footage showed smoke and flames over Jubail’s industrial area, highlighting the severity of the attack and the ongoing escalation of hostilities in the Gulf.

Iran framed the strikes as retaliation for overnight explosions at its Asaluyeh petrochemical plants, which Iranian media attributed to operations linked to the United States and Israel. The broader conflict has already prompted Strait of Hormuz closures and sharp rises in global energy prices.
