WEB DESK: Iran is fully prepared to respond to any hostile action, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Ground Force Commander Brigadier General Mohammad Karami has said, as tensions remain elevated across the Middle East.
Karami said Iran was ready to respond with force to what he described as any “enemy miscalculation” or aggressive move. His remarks were reported by Iranian media and carried by Express Urdu on September 18.
IRGC commander warns against miscalculation
Karami said Iranian armed forces had the capability and preparedness to respond to any hostile action.
The commander made the remarks during a visit to Iran’s Persian Gulf islands, according to Iranian media. The comments were subsequently reported by Iranian and Pakistani news outlets.
Dawn, citing Al Jazeera, reported that Karami described Iran as “100 per cent ready” to respond with force to any enemy miscalculation.
The statement represents the position of an Iranian military commander and does not by itself establish that a new attack is imminent.
Remarks come amid heightened regional tensions
Karami’s warning comes as the wider Middle East remains affected by continuing military confrontation involving Iran, Israel and the United States.
Recent reporting has also documented continued attacks and counterattacks involving regional actors, including developments around the Persian Gulf, Red Sea and Strait of Hormuz. Reuters reported continuing military and security tensions across the region on September 19.
The situation has also created concerns over energy supplies and commercial shipping routes, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea.
Tehran reports mobilisation campaign
The Express Urdu report said a large gathering was held in Tehran as part of the “Jaan Fida” campaign.
According to Iranian media cited by Express, 313,000 people had been mobilised under the campaign in response to perceived threats against Iran. The report did not provide independent verification of that figure.
Basij Organisation chief Hossein Taeb also addressed the gathering and described the campaign as a major public mobilisation effort.
The mobilisation claims should be treated as statements from Iranian authorities and media rather than independently verified figures.
Iran stresses military readiness
Iranian officials have repeatedly said the country’s armed forces remain prepared to defend Iranian territory against potential attacks.
Karami’s latest remarks similarly focused on military readiness and the country’s ability to respond to what Tehran considers hostile action.
The comments come against the backdrop of an ongoing confrontation that has involved attacks on Iranian territory and Iranian strikes against US-linked targets in the region, according to international reporting.
Regional security situation remains fluid
The latest warning adds to a series of statements from regional officials amid continuing uncertainty over the next phase of the conflict.
Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, issued aerial-threat alerts on September 19, while Reuters reported that smoke and flames were seen near Riyadh’s main airport following overnight warnings. Saudi authorities later lifted the alerts.
