Tehran signals possible indirect negotiations while military incidents escalate
Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Iran has indicated readiness for initial, indirect nuclear negotiations with the United States, signaling a cautious step toward diplomacy amid ongoing regional tensions. President Masoud Pezeshkian directed the Foreign Ministry to pursue talks “on fair and equal terms,” focusing solely on nuclear issues.
The announcement comes as U.S.-Iran tensions persist, with multiple military incidents reported in the region. The U.S. Navy shot down an Iranian drone approaching a U.S. aircraft carrier, citing aggressive behavior. Meanwhile, Iranian Revolutionary Guard fast boats and a drone attempted to intercept a U.S.-flagged commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, but U.S. forces intervened safely.
U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff is preparing discussions in Turkey this week, although final details are yet to be confirmed. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also stressed that any agreement must curb Iran’s nuclear program, ballistic missiles, and regional influence. Iran reiterated its stance of not pursuing nuclear weapons while seeking relief from sanctions.
