Iran Football Team Heads to Türkiye for World Cup Camp

Date:

Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Iran’s national football team has departed for Türkiye to continue preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with players also expected to complete US visa procedures during the training camp.

According to Iranian media reports, the team will hold a training camp in Antalya and is scheduled to play two warm-up matches ahead of the tournament.

The squad reportedly includes 22 domestic-based players along with the coaching staff. Head coach Amir Ghalenoei said the players would also submit applications for US visas while in Türkiye.

Iran’s participation in the FIFA World Cup comes amid ongoing tensions between Tehran and Washington. Due to recent political disputes and security concerns, Iranian officials had earlier proposed relocating their matches from the United States to Mexico. However, FIFA reportedly declined to alter the tournament schedule.

Last month, US President Donald Trump commented on Iran’s participation in the tournament, saying, “Let them play.” US officials later clarified that concerns were linked to possible political affiliations of certain officials rather than the players themselves.

Following recent meetings between FIFA officials and the Iran Football Federation, Iran’s chances of participating in the tournament appear to have strengthened.

Iran is scheduled to face New Zealand, Belgium and Egypt during the group stage of the competition.
