Iran Condemns UK Plan to Ban Support for Revolutionary Guards

Date:

Iran has strongly condemned the United Kingdom’s proposed plan to criminalize support for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), calling the move hostile, unjustified, and contrary to international law.

Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: In a statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said the proposed British measures violate the fundamental principles of international law and state sovereignty. Tehran described the plan as an irresponsible and politically motivated action that could further damage bilateral relations.

The ministry urged the UK government to respect international law, diplomatic norms, and the sovereignty of states, warning that such measures would undermine constructive engagement between the two countries.

The criticism follows Britain’s announcement of a proposed legal framework that could prohibit support for or involvement with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The proposal also includes action against an Iran-linked group accused by British authorities of involvement in alleged attacks targeting members of the Jewish community in the UK.

Iran rejected the allegations and dismissed the proposed restrictions as politically driven, arguing that the measures are intended to increase pressure on Tehran rather than address legitimate security concerns.

Analysts say relations between Iran and the United Kingdom have remained strained over a range of regional and international issues. They warn that if the proposed measures are implemented, diplomatic tensions could deepen and affect broader relations between Iran and European countries.
