Guwahati, India – Web Desk: An Indian Air Force Sukhoi fighter jet went missing during a routine flight over Assam’s Karbi Anglong district, raising concerns that the aircraft may have crashed, officials said.
The twin-engine, multi-role Sukhoi aircraft, operated by the Indian Air Force, took off from Jorhat Airbase in the evening. The last contact with the jet was recorded at 7:42 PM, after which communication was abruptly lost. The aircraft had a pilot and a weapons system operator (navigator) on board.
Following the loss of contact, the Indian Air Force immediately launched search and rescue operations, deploying both air and ground teams to locate the missing jet and its crew. Local residents reported hearing a loud explosion in the forested area, suggesting a possible crash, though this has not been officially confirmed.
The Sukhoi jet is a key component of India’s air defense and is used for both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions. Authorities have stated that the cause of the incident and the crew’s condition will be revealed once the search and rescue operations are completed.
