Hormuz Strait, Ceasefire to Top Agenda at Trump-Xi Meeting: Chinese Envoy

Date:

Beijing, China – Web Desk: China’s ambassador to the United Nations has said that the Strait of Hormuz and efforts toward a ceasefire in the Iran-US conflict will top the agenda in the upcoming meeting between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping.

In a statement, the Chinese envoy emphasized that both the potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the Iran-US ceasefire remain urgent priorities for Beijing. He noted that these issues are expected to dominate discussions when the two leaders meet in Beijing on May 14–15, 2026.

The high-level talks are also set to cover bilateral relations and trade issues, amid growing global economic and geopolitical uncertainty. Analysts say the focus on Hormuz — a critical global oil transit route — underscores international concern over energy security and regional stability in the Middle East.

The meeting comes at a time of heightened tensions, with global powers seeking diplomatic pathways to prevent further escalation in the region.
