Berlin, Germany – Web Desk: The United States has approved the sale of Tomahawk cruise missiles and Typhon ground-based launchers to Germany, marking a significant milestone in defense cooperation between the two NATO allies and reinforcing Europe’s long-range military capabilities.
According to international media reports, the announcement followed discussions held during the NATO Summit in Ankara, where German Chancellor said meetings with US officials proved more productive than expected. Both sides agreed that Germany would acquire US-made Tomahawk cruise missiles and deploy them on German territory as part of its future defense strategy.
The German Chancellor stated that the acquisition is intended to close a critical strategic gap in Germany’s defense capabilities. He added that Europe is simultaneously working to modernize its defense infrastructure and enhance regional military readiness amid evolving security challenges.
Reports indicate that the US government, through a Letter of Intent signed earlier this week, assured Germany that formal approval for the sale of the Tomahawk missiles and Typhon launchers will be granted in August.
German officials, however, have not disclosed the number of missiles or launchers planned for purchase, citing national security and defense sensitivity.
Defense analysts note that Tomahawk cruise missiles are capable of striking long-range targets with exceptional precision, while the Typhon launcher system is designed to deploy multiple types of advanced missile systems. Experts believe the agreement forms part of NATO’s broader effort to strengthen Europe’s deterrence capabilities and deepen military cooperation among alliance members.
