Germany Relocates Embassy Staff from Iraq Over Security Threat

Date:

BERLIN, Germany – Reuters : Germany has temporarily relocated staff from its embassy in Baghdad due to heightened security risks linked to escalating tensions in the Middle East, the German Foreign Ministry confirmed.

A ministry spokesperson said the personnel of the German embassy in Baghdad had been moved out of Iraq as a precautionary measure in response to the deteriorating security environment.

“The personnel of the German embassy in Baghdad has now been temporarily relocated from Iraq because of the threat situation,” the spokesperson said, adding that the safety of diplomatic staff is being continuously reviewed.

Officials said the embassy remains operational and reachable, although its legal and consular services have already been significantly limited due to ongoing security concerns.

Meanwhile, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul discussed the regional crisis with Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, during a meeting in Nicosia, Cyprus.

According to German officials, both sides condemned what Wadephul described as “indiscriminate attacks” by Iran against countries in the region and urged Tehran to halt the strikes.

The relocation highlights growing diplomatic concerns as tensions continue to rise across the Middle East, prompting several countries to reassess the security of their diplomatic missions.
