TEHRAN, Iran – Web Desk: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, has arrived in Tehran to participate in the funeral prayers of Iran’s former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Field Marshal Asim Munir was received at Tehran Airport by Iran’s Defense Minister, Interior Minister, and other senior civil and military officials. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was also present at the airport on the occasion. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also departed for Iran along with key cabinet members. Other important government and political figures have also arrived in Iran to attend Khamenei’s funeral prayers.
According to Iranian media, the funeral prayer for the late Supreme Leader will be offered tomorrow in Tehran. His casket has been moved to the Imam Khomeini Mosalla cultural center in Tehran, where delegations from around the world and figures from various faiths are paying their respects.
Following the funeral prayer in Tehran, the casket will be taken from Tehran to Qom, then to Najaf and later to Karbala. It may be recalled that on February 28, 2026, during a US-Israeli attack in Tehran, the compound of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was targeted, resulting in his martyrdom along with other key figures.
