Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Multiple explosions were heard Sunday evening in the port city of Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island in southern Iran, according to Iranian media reports . The blasts come amid heightened regional tensions between Iran and the United States over the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz .

Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency reported that the explosion sounds came from the eastern outskirts of Bandar Abbas and Mesen village, south of Qeshm Island .
Qeshm Governor Hossein Amir-Teymouri confirmed to Iran’s official news agency IRNA that 10 to 11 “enemy projectiles” had struck the island . The governor stated that only military targets were hit and no casualties were reported on the island .
However, later reports from the semi-official Tasnim news agency cited sources indicating that one person was killed and two others wounded on Farur Island, part of the same Hormozgan province . The victim was identified as Nouh Mahdavi, a director of the provincial telecommunications company, who was reportedly killed while on duty .
Context of Escalating Tensions
The strikes are the latest in a series of military exchanges between the United States and Iran, following the collapse of a ceasefire that had been in place since late February . US Central Command has confirmed conducting multiple rounds of strikes against Iranian targets, describing the operations as responses to Iranian attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz .
