Bristol, England – Web Desk: England secured their first-ever T20 International series victory over India, defeating the reigning T20 world champions by nine wickets in the fourth match to take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.
Chasing a modest target of 159, England completed the chase in just 13.5 overs, losing only one wicket at Bristol. Captain Harry Brook led from the front with an unbeaten 79 off 35 balls, while Phil Salt struck 59 off 42 deliveries. The pair stitched together an unbeaten 144-run partnership for the second wicket, guiding the hosts to a comprehensive victory.
Earlier, India posted 158/7 after being asked to bat first. Captain Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 80 from 49 balls, providing the backbone of the innings, while Shivam Dube contributed 22 runs. However, the rest of the batting lineup failed to build meaningful partnerships.
For England, Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue claimed two wickets each, while Will Jacks and Adil Rashid picked up one wicket apiece.
The defeat marked India’s fifth consecutive loss in completed T20 Internationals, increasing scrutiny over the team’s new leadership. Shreyas Iyer, who was appointed captain following the team’s T20 World Cup triumph, is facing mounting pressure after the recent run of poor results.
The opening match of the series was washed out due to rain, while the fifth and final T20I is scheduled to be played in Southampton on Saturday.
