Kinshasa, DR Congo – Web Desk: The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) continues to worsen, with health authorities confirming 782 total cases and 181 deaths as the virus spreads across multiple provinces.
According to the country’s Ministry of Health, the outbreak is primarily concentrated in the eastern regions of Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu, where medical teams are actively engaged in case tracing, vaccination campaigns, and isolation-based treatment.
Officials reported 72 new confirmed cases within the past 24 hours, all recorded in Ituri province, which has emerged as the current epicentre of the outbreak.
Ebola is a highly contagious and often fatal viral disease transmitted through direct contact with bodily fluids of infected individuals. The DRC has faced repeated outbreaks over the years due to dense forest regions and frequent cross-border movement.
Authorities, supported by international health organisations, are implementing ring vaccination, surveillance, contact tracing, and rapid response strategies to contain the spread. However, insecurity and difficult terrain in some areas continue to hamper relief operations.
The World Health Organization has previously warned that early detection and rapid isolation are critical to preventing further transmission. Officials say field investigations and vaccination drives are ongoing, with updated figures expected in the coming days.
