Niger State, Nigeria | Web Desk — At least 32 people were killed and dozens abducted in northern Nigeria’s Niger State after armed attackers on motorcycles struck multiple villages, local authorities and eyewitnesses reported.
The assailants targeted three villages in Borgu, including Tunga Makiri, where six residents were killed, several homes were set ablaze, and numerous people were abducted. The attackers then moved toward Konkuso village, opening fire indiscriminately early in the morning. Eyewitness reports indicate fatalities in Konkuso may range from 26 to 38. Police stations in the affected areas were also torched, and many residents remain missing.
Subsequently, attackers reportedly struck Pisa village, killing at least one person and burning most of the structures there.
The region near the border of Niger and Kwara states, particularly the Kenji Forest, is considered a stronghold for insurgent and armed groups, including Boko Haram, who have long operated in the area.
Local religious and community leaders have urged the Nigerian president to establish a permanent military base to prevent further attacks. Analysts note that both Christians and Muslims in the region face threats from extremist groups, and the violence is not targeting a single religious community.
