Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Wednesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to advancing the objectives of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) during a meeting with SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev, the Foreign Office said.
Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: According to the Foreign Office, the two leaders held a productive discussion on the SCO’s priorities and explored ways to strengthen cooperation among member states in key sectors, including the economy, transport, and regional connectivity.
They also exchanged views on regional and international developments. The SCO secretary-general praised Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional peace, stability, and cooperation.
Yermekbayev also briefed Dar on preparations for the upcoming SCO Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, and shared proposals aimed at improving the organisation’s effectiveness and efficiency.
During the meeting, Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to the SCO’s objectives and expressed readiness to work closely with all member states ahead of Pakistan assuming the chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State in September and hosting the SCO Summit in 2027.
Established in 2001 as a regional security forum, the SCO has evolved into a major platform for economic, trade, and regional cooperation, comprising 10 member states, including China, Russia, Pakistan, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Belarus.
