Deadly clashes at Tajik border highlight rising regional security threats from Afghanistan
Dushanbe, Tajikistan – Web Desk: Cross-border terrorism originating from Afghanistan has escalated sharply, posing serious security challenges for neighboring countries. Despite promises to curb militant activities, the Taliban government has failed to prevent attacks emanating from Afghan soil.
According to reports by The Times of Central Asia, Tajik security forces thwarted an infiltration attempt at the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border, killing three Afghan militants while two others escaped. Authorities seized heavy weaponry, ammunition, and large quantities of narcotics from the deceased militants.
Earlier on January 18, four militants attempting to cross the Sarchashma border were killed. Since November, incidents along the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border have been on a continuous rise, with prior attacks resulting in casualties among both local security forces and foreign workers.
Security experts warn that Afghanistan-based cross-border terrorism has become a severe regional threat, requiring coordinated strategies and cooperation at the regional level. Pakistan has repeatedly presented evidence of terrorism originating from Afghanistan to international bodies, yet effective global measures remain lacking. Experts emphasize that immediate and practical actions are critical to prevent further escalation.
