Ottawa, Canada – Web Desk: A senior Sikh community leader in Canada has reportedly received death threats, according to a report by Global News, raising fresh concerns over security and alleged foreign interference.
Moninder Singh, president of the Sikh Federation of Canada, was informed by Canadian police about potential threats against him and his family. Authorities advised him to take precautionary security measures following intelligence assessments indicating credible risks.
The report stated that Singh had previously received alleged threats in 2022, alongside slain Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, whose killing significantly strained diplomatic ties between Ottawa and New Delhi.
Canadian officials maintain that investigations are ongoing into alleged foreign interference, disinformation campaigns, and intimidation efforts targeting individuals within Canada. Law enforcement agencies are also examining evidence suggesting that certain criminal networks may have been used to target political opponents.
The report further referenced investigations in the United States into an alleged plot against Sikh activist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. Indian authorities have previously denied involvement in such allegations.
Analysts say the latest developments could deepen tensions between Canada and India, as security agencies continue to closely monitor the situation. The issue of transnational repression and diaspora security remains under heightened scrutiny amid growing geopolitical friction.
