RAWALPINDI (Web Desk) – Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi confirmed on Tuesday at least three people were martyred during an ongoing operation at Cadet College Wana in South Waziristan.
He stated that the attackers were in contact with their handlers in Afghanistan.
The peace talks between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban regime remain stalled, although a ceasefire continues between the two neighbours. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif recently stated that negotiations have been suspended, with no plans for a fourth round of talks.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged Kabul to restrain militant groups, including the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), operating from Afghan soil, emphasizing that lasting peace in the region depends on this. Speaking at the Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference, he said a stable Afghanistan is crucial for regional connectivity, growth, and prosperity.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Indian-backed terrorists attacked the college. Security forces eliminated two attackers, while three were cornered inside the administrative block. Earlier, the attackers targeted the main gate with a vehicle-borne explosive device, damaging nearby buildings.
At the time of the attack, approximately 650 people, including 525 cadets, were inside the college. So far, security forces have safely evacuated 115 individuals, with around 535 still inside. Officials assured parents that all students are safe and the operation would be completed soon.
The ISPR described the attack as a ‘heinous and cowardly act’ likening it to the 2014 Army Public School Peshawar attack. Security forces responded decisively, eliminating two militants and preventing a larger catastrophe. The remaining intruders are trapped, with operations ongoing.
