Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam has credited his team’s collective effort for reaching the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 11 final, deflecting personal praise after his match-winning century.
Speaking at a press conference following Zalmi’s 70-run victory over Islamabad United in the Qualifier on Tuesday, Babar said: “Our journey to the final is not because of me alone. It is everyone’s collective hard work.”
Chasing a target of 222, Islamabad United were bowled out for 151. Earlier, Peshawar Zalmi posted 221 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Babar Azam remained the standout performer, scoring 103 runs off just 59 balls.
“It was a very important match for us,” Babar said. “I really enjoyed the crowd. I have many special memories associated with the Karachi ground.”
Reflecting on his personal form, the captain acknowledged the natural ups and downs of a player’s career. “Every day is not the same. Sometimes you cannot achieve what you want. I believe in my hard work. You learn a lot over time, and when you fall and then come back, it feels really good.”
He revealed that he had reviewed his own videos to identify mistakes. “Sometimes fixing one thing changes your entire batting,” he said.
Responding to criticism that he does not win matches for his team, Babar said: “People have kept saying that I don’t win matches. I don’t focus on records. For me, every day is a new day. Before PSL, I decided to play normal cricket — the way I naturally play.”
Peshawar Zalmi now awaits the winner of the second Eliminator to face off in the final.
