Oil Flow Resumes Through Strait of Hormuz, US Energy Secretary Says

Date:

US Energy Secretary Chris Wright has claimed that oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz have resumed with a surge to approximately 9 million barrels per day, as a result of joint efforts by Gulf allies and the US military.

What Happened

In a statement on social media platform X, Secretary Wright said oil transportation has improved due to coordinated efforts with Gulf allies. He stated that approximately 15 million barrels of oil are being shipped daily from the Gulf region to global markets.

According to Wright, modern pipelines and export facilities are enabling an additional 50 to 70 million barrels per day to be transported out of the region.

Record Exports

Secretary Wright claimed that on Sunday alone, more than 20 million barrels of oil were exported from Gulf countries, surpassing average export levels before the tensions began.

Iranian Response

The announcement comes after Iran’s Supreme National Security Council member Mohsen Rezaei previously declared that the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed until a change in US behavior and Iran’s conditions were met.

Background

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments. Iran had reportedly closed the strait or restricted passage following military action by the US, which created significant disruption in global energy markets. The US has been working with Gulf allies to restore normal shipping operations.

What’s Next

The resumption of oil flows could help stabilize global energy prices. However, tensions with Iran remain, and the situation in the strait could change based on diplomatic developments between Tehran and Washington.

Conclusion

The restoration of oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz marks a significant development in global energy markets following disruptions caused by US-Iran tensions. While the US Energy Secretary’s claims indicate improved traffic volumes, the situation remains fluid given Iran’s stated position on the strait’s closure.
