Sydney, Australia – Web Desk: Australia’s head coach Andrew McDonald has clarified the absence of star fast bowlers Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc from the ODI series against Pakistan and Bangladesh, saying the decision has been misinterpreted.
According to details, the trio’s omission from the white-ball squad has raised eyebrows, particularly as all three players are currently active in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
McDonald explained that the senior pacers are being carefully managed in the lead-up to the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup, with workload management and long-term fitness as key priorities.
He said Australia faces a packed international schedule, including 20 Tests, 9 ODIs, and 5 T20Is across four continents before the next World Cup, making it necessary to rotate senior bowlers.
The coach stressed that the decision was not influenced by players’ personal preference but was made in consultation with medical and performance staff.
McDonald added that the current break will allow the fast bowlers to recover physically and prepare for red-ball cricket, ensuring they remain fully fit for major upcoming tournaments.
