Iranian President warns US and allies, blames sanctions for economic crisis
Tehran: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has warned that any attack on Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei would be considered a full declaration of war against the Iranian nation.
According to Iranian media, President Pezeshkian said in a statement posted on social media platform X that inhumane sanctions imposed by the United States and its allies are a major cause of the severe economic hardships faced by the Iranian people. He stressed that decades-long hostility and pressure campaigns have directly impacted Iran’s economy and public welfare.
The Iranian president reiterated that any threat or attack on the Supreme Leader would be treated as an act of war, warning of serious consequences. His remarks follow a statement by Ayatollah Khamenei, who recently accused US President Donald Trump of being responsible for deaths and destruction during recent unrest in Iran, labeling him a criminal.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump has openly called for a change in Iran’s leadership, stating in an interview that it is time for Iran to find new leadership. These remarks have further escalated tensions between Tehran and Washington.
It is worth noting that peaceful protests initiated by traders last month in Iran later turned violent after continuing for over a week. Iranian authorities have accused the United States and Israel of inciting unrest and backing protesters through foreign intelligence agencies. Iran claims that foreign-backed elements targeted civilians, security forces, and public infrastructure during the chaos.
