Dubai, UAE — Web Desk: India fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has been fined 15 percent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the code of conduct issued by the International Cricket Council.
The incident occurred during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final between India national cricket team and New Zealand national cricket team on Sunday.
According to the ICC, Arshdeep was found to have breached Article 2.9 of the code of conduct, which relates to throwing a ball dangerously or inappropriately at a player during an international match.
The moment occurred in the 11th over of New Zealand’s run chase. After delivering the ball, Arshdeep stopped it in his follow-through and attempted to throw it at the stumps. The throw struck the pads of New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell.
Following the incident, Arshdeep returned to his bowling mark without immediately apologizing. Umpire Richard Illingworth later spoke with the bowler, after which Arshdeep apologized to Mitchell at the end of the over.
The ICC confirmed the Level 1 offence and imposed a 15 percent deduction from the player’s match fee as a disciplinary measure.
