A Lahore police ASI has been accused of sexually assaulting an intellectually disabled girl inside Ghaziabad police station, prompting the suspension of the entire station staff pending investigation.
Lahore, Pakistan – Web Desk: A police assistant sub-inspector (ASI) has been accused of allegedly sexually assaulting an intellectually disabled girl inside Lahore’s Ghaziabad police station, prompting authorities to suspend the entire station staff pending an investigation.
According to police, the accused officer, identified as Imran, allegedly brought the girl from her home to the police station on a motorcycle. Police said he had informed the girl’s family that she was required in connection with a case before allegedly taking her into a room inside the station, where the assault is reported to have occurred.
In response to the incident, DIG Operations Faisal Kamran ordered the suspension of the entire Ghaziabad police station staff. Those suspended include the station house officer (SHO), two sub-inspectors, eight assistant sub-inspectors, front desk personnel, and a total of 78 officials.
The DIG said the disciplinary action was taken due to poor supervision and failure to fulfil administrative responsibilities. He stated that every activity taking place inside a police station should be within the knowledge and oversight of the SHO.
Authorities have also appointed Ali Zaib Dastgir as the new SHO of Ghaziabad police station.
