Babar Azam Reportedly Set Condition to Accept Test Captaincy

Date:

Lahore, Pakistan – Web Desk: Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam reportedly set a condition before accepting the Test captaincy, insisting that he be considered for leadership across all three formats in the future .

The Reported Condition

According to international media reports, selectors assured Babar that if the team performs well in the upcoming five Test matches against the West Indies and England, he could be reinstated as all-format captain .

Background

The reports claim that two selectors met with Babar before his appointment as Test captain, as the PCB had limited options following disappointing results under Shan Masood’s leadership.

Babar’s Stance

Babar has always aspired to lead Pakistan across all formats. Sources indicate that he was not willing to accept just the Test captaincy and wanted a clearer pathway to becoming the all-format leader .

Babar had stepped down from the all-format captaincy after the 2023 ODI World Cup, with Shan Masood taking over Tests and Shaheen Shah Afridi leading the white-ball teams.

Babar’s Response

Babar expressed confidence in his ability to lead again, stating that he has learned a great deal from past experiences and that his top priority is to deliver maximum success for Pakistan .

The PCB has not issued any official confirmation on the matter .
