New York – Web Desk: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met his Bangladeshi counterpart Salahuddin Ahmed on the sidelines of a UN summit in New York, with both sides agreeing to expand bilateral cooperation in multiple areas of mutual interest, according to a statement from the interior ministry .
The two ministers discussed training and exchange programs for police officers, and emphasized strengthening collaboration to prevent cybercrime and online fraud . Their discussions also covered joint measures against terrorism, human smuggling, organized crime, and financial fraud, according to previous agreements signed between the two countries .
Regional Situation Discussed
The meeting also featured a detailed exchange of views on the US-Iran conflict and the current situation in the Middle East . Ahmed lauded Pakistan’s “constructive role” in establishing peace in the region, according to the ministry statement .
Naqvi was quoted as saying that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir played a vital role in maintaining peace . He added that both countries should seize new opportunities to further strengthen their mutual relations .
Expanding Bilateral Ties
The meeting follows a series of engagements between the two countries, including a historic anti-narcotics agreement signed in Dhaka last month and the establishment of a secretary-level Joint Working Group on security cooperation .
Naqvi is currently in the United States, where he represented Pakistan at the UN summit held from July 7-8, which brought together interior ministers, police chiefs, and senior law enforcement officials from around the world .
