Lebanon’s president calls for dialogue with Israel to end conflict.

Date:

Beirut, Lebanon – Web Desk: Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has extended an invitation to both the Israeli government and public to engage in direct negotiations, signaling a potential diplomatic opening amid ongoing regional tensions.

In an interview with a U.S. television network, President Aoun said that a military solution would never provide security for the people of Israel, stressing that dialogue remains the only viable path forward. He added that Lebanon is “ready and committed” to talks and urged Israel to respond positively.

“If the Israelis are ready, let us sit and talk,” he said, emphasizing that continued conflict would not bring lasting peace or stability.

Aoun also clarified that he would not meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu before reaching an agreement to end hostilities. He said any potential deal would focus on “non-aggression” rather than a full peace treaty at this stage.

The Lebanese president further stressed the need to permanently end the state of hostility between Lebanon and Israel, suggesting that a non-aggression framework could serve as a foundation for a “just and sustainable peace.”

He noted that Lebanon would proceed in line with the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative, which proposes normalization of relations with Israel in exchange for the establishment of a Palestinian state and Israeli withdrawal from occupied territories.

Lebanon is currently engaged in U.S.-mediated indirect and direct discussions with Israel aimed at achieving a broader ceasefire agreement, according to official sources.
