Tehran / Beirut – Web Desk: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has responded strongly to remarks made by Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, following an interview aired on CNN.
Sharing a video of the interview on social media, Araghchi wrote: “Mr President, save Lebanon from its real enemy,” adding that some interpretations of the Lebanese president’s comments could suggest Iran was responsible for Lebanon’s internal crises.
He rejected such claims, stating that Iran has not “occupied Lebanon, displaced its people, or carried out daily attacks,” and criticised what he described as misrepresentation of Tehran’s regional role.
Araghchi further said that if Lebanon were being used as a “card” by the United States, any agreement would have already been reached long ago, implying that external pressure is shaping Lebanon’s political discourse.
In a separate reaction, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani also criticised the Lebanese president’s remarks, accusing him of abandoning allies and aligning with opposing forces, using strong language to underscore Tehran’s stance.
The exchange highlights rising diplomatic tensions and sharply differing narratives between Iran and Lebanon’s leadership over regional influence and security dynamics.
