Iran Denies Kuwait Airport Attack, Blames US Defense System

Date:

Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Iran has denied responsibility for a deadly attack on Kuwait International Airport and instead blamed a malfunction in a U.S.-made air defense system, according to statements attributed to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Earlier reports from Kuwaiti authorities alleged that Iranian drones and missiles struck the airport, killing at least one Indian national and injuring more than 60 people. Flights were temporarily suspended, and operations were diverted following the incident.

However, IRGC spokespersons said the damage to the airport’s passenger terminal was not caused by Iranian strikes but resulted from a technical failure in the U.S.-supplied Patriot air defense system. They claimed that a Patriot interceptor missile failed to engage an incoming projectile and instead struck the terminal, causing significant destruction and casualties.

Kuwaiti officials have not yet issued a formal response to Iran’s claims. Investigations into the cause of the incident and the extent of the damage are ongoing.

International and Kuwaiti sources had earlier reported that Terminal 1 of the airport was hit during a wave of drone and missile attacks, triggering fires and structural damage.

The airport was forced to suspend operations temporarily, with several flights rerouted to alternative airports as emergency services responded to the situation.

Iranian authorities maintain that their operations were conducted in response to earlier strikes attributed to the United States, while U.S. forces have stated they intercepted multiple Iranian drones and missiles targeting Kuwait and Bahrain.
