Mohammad Amir Now Eligible to Play in IPL After Getting British Citizenship

Date:

LONDON – Web Desk: Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has become a British citizen, with the UK government issuing him a passport, making him eligible to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

According to details, Amir had applied for the passport several years ago. After completing all legal requirements and the stipulated waiting period, he has now received his British passport.

Amir, who represented Pakistan in 36 Tests, 61 ODIs, and 62 T20Is, is married to Nargis Khan, who is a British citizen. As a British citizen, Amir is now eligible to feature in the IPL, a privilege not available to active Pakistani cricketers due to political tensions between the two countries.

It may be recalled that Amir announced his retirement from international cricket for the second time last year. He had previously retired in 2019 but reversed that decision in 2020 before retiring again in 2025.
