Iran Blames US Over Hormuz Crisis, Warns Escalation

Date:

Web Desk: – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei has said that it is becoming increasingly difficult for the United States to withdraw from what he described as “maximum demands,” blaming Washington for escalating regional tensions around the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement, Baghaei said the current situation in the strategic waterway is a direct result of what Iran views as US aggression against the country. He argued that diplomatic efforts to end the conflict have been slow and that responsibility lies with Washington.

He claimed that before recent hostilities, the Strait of Hormuz was a secure passage for global maritime navigation, and that shipping companies and states now face uncertainty due to heightened tensions.

Baghaei added that regional states and international shipping operators are aware of the need to coordinate with Iran for safe passage through the waterway. He emphasized that Tehran considers its actions in the Strait to be in line with international law.

The Iranian spokesperson further said that the United States has contributed to security gaps in both the Strait of Hormuz and broader international waters. He described Iran as a “guardian of security and stability” in the maritime corridor.

Referring to maritime security discussions, Baghaei said that Iran and Oman—both coastal states of the Strait—are working on protocols and mechanisms to ensure safe navigation.

He also warned that Iran’s armed forces are prepared to respond to any perceived threats involving US military presence in the area, while reiterating that Tehran is focused on ending the conflict rather than expanding negotiations beyond that goal.

Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz remain high as global attention continues to focus on maritime security, energy routes, and the risk of wider regional escalation.
