Washington, United States – Web Desk: U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that the United States has effectively shut down the Strait of Hormuz, while asserting that Iran is seeking to reopen the critical maritime passage.
In a statement posted on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said Iran does not genuinely intend to close the strait, as it relies heavily on the waterway for economic activity. He claimed that Iran earns approximately $500 million daily through trade linked to the route.
Trump further alleged that Tehran’s rhetoric about closing the strait is aimed at preserving its image, while in reality it wants the passage to remain open. He added that individuals had recently informed him that Iran is keen to reopen the waterway as soon as possible.
Adopting a hardline stance, the U.S. president warned that reopening the Strait of Hormuz could eliminate the possibility of any agreement with Iran unless broader objectives are achieved.
The remarks come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East and ongoing disputes over maritime access, energy security, and military posturing in the region.
Earlier, Trump had announced an extension of the ceasefire following a request from Pakistan’s leadership, including Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while ordering U.S. forces to maintain a naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz.
Analysts note that the strait remains one of the world’s most critical energy corridors, and any disruption or competing claims over its control could have far-reaching implications for global oil markets and regional stability.
