Peshawar, Pakistan – Web Desk: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded loans exceeding Rs809 billion during the first six months of the current fiscal year, according to official documents from the provincial finance department.
The data shows that the provincial government secured financing for 102 development projects, with total borrowing crossing the Rs809 billion mark.
The largest share of loans was obtained from the World Bank, amounting to Rs352.5 billion for 46 projects. Meanwhile, the Asian Development Bank provided Rs351.8 billion for 44 projects.
The documents further revealed that between July and December, the government paid Rs25.56 billion in debt servicing, including Rs15.81 billion in principal repayments and Rs9.75 billion in interest.
Muzammil Aslam, adviser to the provincial government on finance, said the borrowing reflects previously agreed loans tied to ongoing development initiatives. He added that the provincial budget had initially estimated Rs180 billion in borrowing for the fiscal year.
The figures highlight the province’s reliance on international financial institutions to fund infrastructure and development, amid ongoing fiscal pressures.
