Washington, D.C., United States – Web Desk: The White House has said that Donald Trump is seeking to secure a deal with Iran before an April 6 deadline, amid ongoing diplomatic efforts.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters during a briefing that “positive discussions” are taking place regarding the Iran conflict, adding that Tehran has agreed to some US proposals in private.
She noted that while progress is being made behind closed doors, there remains a distinction between private diplomatic exchanges and public statements. “What Iran has conveyed privately will be assessed carefully,” she said.
Leavitt also indicated that Trump may seek financial support from Arab countries to help cover the costs associated with the conflict, though she stressed that no final decision has been made.
On maritime tensions, she reiterated that the United States does not support any attempt by Iran to impose toll charges in the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil transit route. She added that around 20 oil tankers are expected to pass through the strait in the coming days.
Separately, the spokesperson confirmed that Washington had allowed an oil tanker to travel to Cuba on humanitarian grounds, emphasizing that US policy toward Havana remains unchanged.
Meanwhile, Iran has denied holding direct talks with the United States. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei stated that no direct negotiations have taken place, and that messages have instead been exchanged through intermediaries.
The developments come amid heightened geopolitical tensions and ongoing uncertainty over the prospects for a US-Iran agreement.
