Indonesia Rejects $1B Fee for Gaza Peace Board Role

Date:

Jakarta, Indonesia – Web Desk: Indonesia has denied reports that it agreed to pay a $1 billion fee to join a proposed “Gaza Peace Board,” clarifying that its role in any Gaza initiative would be limited to peacekeeping support.

President Prabowo Subianto said the country had never committed to such a large financial contribution and rejected media reports suggesting otherwise.

According to international media, Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia’s involvement would focus solely on providing peacekeeping forces for Gaza if required, rather than taking on any major financial burden.

He added that Indonesia remains willing to contribute troops to United Nations-style peacekeeping missions aimed at stabilizing the region, but emphasized that no financial pledge of $1 billion was ever made.

The clarification comes after reports that Indonesia’s defence budget could have been used to fund such contributions, sparking domestic debate and concern over potential financial strain.

Earlier reports also suggested that a Gaza Peace Board meeting in Washington discussed reconstruction and stabilization plans worth approximately $17 billion, with multiple countries pledging contributions, including the United States and several Gulf states.
