Bajaur, Pakistan – Web Desk: At least five civilians, including three women, were injured after mortar shells fired from across the border landed in residential areas of Bajaur district late last night, security sources said.
The incident occurred in the border localities of Laghrai and surrounding areas, where cross-border shelling reportedly followed an exchange of fire. Security officials said Pakistan’s armed forces responded with what they described as a “strong and effective” action after unprovoked firing from across the frontier.
According to security sources, the wounded were shifted to Khar Hospital for medical treatment. The condition of the injured was not immediately disclosed.
The shelling also damaged a local mosque, with its roof and other sections partially affected, residents said.
Sources further stated that Pakistan’s security forces remain on high alert along the border and are closely monitoring the situation to prevent further escalation. Defensive measures are in place to respond to any potential violations or aggression, officials added.
The latest incident comes amid heightened tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, raising concerns about civilian safety and regional stability.
