US President says UN must continue its role; defends NATO, global interventions
US President Donald Trump has clarified that the proposed Gaza Board of Peace is not intended to replace the United Nations, stressing that the UN should continue fulfilling its global responsibilities.
Speaking at a press conference marking one year of his presidency, Trump said the Gaza Board of Peace is a separate initiative aimed at stabilizing the region, not undermining international institutions. He emphasized that global peace efforts require cooperation rather than replacement.
Trump also claimed credit for strengthening NATO, stating that the alliance remained intact due to his leadership. He hinted at a future solution regarding Greenland that would satisfy both NATO and US interests.
Addressing foreign relations, Trump said ties with the UK and France remain strong, though he confirmed he would not attend the upcoming G7 summit in Paris. He also dismissed speculation about meeting former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, noting that the US has already secured 50 million barrels of oil from Venezuela.
Revisiting South Asia tensions, Trump claimed his intervention prevented a full-scale Pakistan–India war, alleging that eight aircraft were shot down during the escalation. He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif credited him with saving millions of lives.
Trump further stated that unchecked conflict could have resulted in 10 to 20 million casualties. He added that he has helped stop eight wars globally and continues efforts to end the Russia–Ukraine war, insisting his actions were not motivated by winning a Nobel Peace Prize.
