Istanbul, Turkey – Web Desk: At least 18 migrants have died after a rubber dinghy capsized in the Aegean Sea between Turkey and Greece, the Turkish Coast Guard confirmed on Monday.
Authorities reported that a search and rescue operation successfully saved 21 migrants, while the bodies of the deceased were recovered from the water.
The Turkish Coast Guard stated that the migrants were traveling in an overcrowded rubber boat, a common vessel used for illegal crossings to Europe.
Incidents involving migrant boats in the Aegean Sea have surged in recent months, highlighting the ongoing risks faced by people fleeing conflict, poverty, or persecution. Officials continue to urge caution and emphasize the importance of safe and legal migration channels.
Rescue teams from both Turkey and Greece have been coordinating to prevent further casualties and manage the increasing migrant crossings in the region.
