Ziarat Sit-In Ends as Balochistan Government Agrees to Judicial Commission

Quetta, Pakistan – Web Desk: The Balochistan government and the Ziarat sit-in committee have reached a written agreement to resolve the ongoing protest, with the government agreeing to establish an independent judicial commission to investigate the Ziarat tragedy .

Key Agreement Terms

The breakthrough came after days of tense negotiations, resolved through reconciliation efforts led by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti. The agreement includes:

  • An independent judicial commission to investigate the Ziarat incident and determine accountability .
  • A high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bugti, bringing together opposition leaders and families of the martyrs to discuss security challenges .
  • Formal recognition of victims as martyrs under government policy .
  • Financial compensation, assistance packages, and educational support for the children of the victims .
  • Public buildings to be named after the martyrs .
  • Strengthening Balochistan Police through manpower expansion and enhanced training .
  • A committee led by the provincial revenue minister to address public grievances over revenue matters .

Chief Minister’s Commitment

Following the signing, Chief Minister Bugti vowed that the sacrifices of the Ziarat martyrs would never be forgotten. He emphasized the government’s responsibility to support their families and paid tribute to the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps, Balochistan Police, and other law-enforcement agencies for their role in safeguarding peace .
