SPOKANE – Web Desk: Wildfires raging on the outskirts of Washington state have destroyed at least 700 buildings and forced 64,000 residents to evacuate as the blaze entered its third day, according to officials.
The fire near Spokane has been classified as a top priority for US firefighting resources, with the drought-stricken Pacific Northwest region experiencing widespread wildfires that have degraded air quality. More than 8,000 acres have burned since the fire ignited on Saturday along the city’s northern edge.
Video footage from the fire zone showed towering plumes of smoke rising above treetops, with aerial tankers dropping red fire retardant in an effort to contain the blaze.
