Tehran: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed to have arrested an Israeli spy during nationwide anti-government protests. The arrest was made as part of operations aimed at maintaining public order amid escalating unrest.
According to Iranian media, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior officials have repeatedly alleged that foreign elements may be involved in fueling recent protests. The IRGC’s intelligence wing stated that a foreign national was detained on charges of spying for Israel.
Authorities have not disclosed the nationality or identity of the arrested individual, but claim he was involved in collecting sensitive information and passing it to Israeli agencies.
The arrest comes at a time when protests—sparked on December 28 over inflation, economic hardship, and unemployment—have intensified across the country.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Attorney General has warned that demonstrators causing unrest are “enemies of God,” a crime under Iranian law that carries the death penalty.
So far, the ongoing protests have resulted in around 50 deaths, including security personnel, while more than 250 people have been arrested.
