Karachi: The city has once again plunged into political tension as conditions turned volatile ahead of a planned PTI rally. Heavy contingents of police entered Bagh-e-Jinnah, forcibly evacuated party workers, and detained several individuals.
Meanwhile, the sudden closure of the Super Highway paralyzed traffic between Karachi and Hyderabad, leaving even Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Suhail Afridi stranded in the jam while traveling from Hyderabad to Karachi.
According to PTI’s spokesperson, Afridi is expected to reach Bagh-e-Jinnah ground later tonight to review rally preparations.
Police have also sealed the route from Numaish Chowrangi to Mazar-e-Quaid, while both tracks near a private housing society on the Super Highway were blocked, causing severe traffic congestion on both sides.
Sources confirm that during the operation, several PTI workers were taken into custody and rally equipment was scattered.
PTI Karachi President Raja Azhar, speaking to Express News, condemned the police action, alleging that workers were dispersed, many arrested, and arrangements disrupted. He insisted that the rally will proceed “at all costs” and criticized the Sindh government’s policies as “double-faced.”
