Pakistani spinner Usman Tariq has revealed that his unconventional bowling action stems from playing tennis ball cricket during his early days.
The spinner has become a major talking point in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup, where his distinctive action has caught the attention of fans and cricket analysts alike. In the opening matches of the tournament, Tariq picked up eight wickets, proving that his unusual technique is not just eye-catching but also highly effective.
Speaking to the media, Tariq said he never expected his bowling action to receive such widespread attention. “I am enjoying every moment and happy to contribute to the team’s success,” he said.
He added that praise from commentators and former cricketers is an honor and has motivated him to further improve his performance. Discussing his unique style, Tariq explained that he developed it while playing tennis ball cricket. “If you watch the bowling in slow motion, the timing appears completely correct; there is just a slight variation in speed,” he noted.
Looking ahead to the Super Eight stage, Tariq said Pakistan’s spin unit has prepared a clear strategy. He expressed confidence that if the pitch offers assistance to spinners, the team will be able to execute its plans effectively.
The spinner also spoke about his trademark headband, saying he began wearing it because the ball would sometimes come in front of his eyes during his run-up, affecting his concentration. With fans appreciating the look, he plans to continue wearing it.
Tariq emphasized that every match is a new challenge and that the team remains focused on delivering strong performances in upcoming fixtures.
