ICC suspends US star Aaron Jones over anti-corruption breaches before T20 World Cup
New York, United States | Web Desk: The United States cricket team has suffered a major setback ahead of the T20 World Cup as the International Cricket Council (ICC) has provisionally suspended experienced batter Aaron Jones over alleged violations of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.
According to the ICC, Aaron Jones has been charged with five separate breaches, including allegations related to match-fixing, failure to report suspicious approaches, non-cooperation with investigators, and concealing evidence. The governing body has granted the 31-year-old 14 days to respond to the charges.
Jones was part of the 18-member USA training camp in Sri Lanka, preparing for the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, but his suspension has now made him ineligible for selection. The United States has yet to announce its final World Cup squad.
Most of the charges stem from the 2023–24 “Beam 10” tournament in Barbados, under Cricket West Indies’ jurisdiction, while two allegations are linked to international fixtures. The ICC stated the case is part of a broader investigation, with the possibility of more individuals coming under scrutiny.
Aaron Jones has played 52 ODIs and 48 T20Is for the USA since his debut in 2019. He was a key figure in the 2024 T20 World Cup, scoring a match-winning 94 against Canada and playing a crucial role in USA’s historic victory over Pakistan.
