Washington, United States – Web Desk: US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth warned that American forces are fully prepared to resume military operations if Iran fails to make what he described as a “wise decision” and reach an agreement.
Speaking at a press briefing in Washington, Hegseth said Iran must carefully consider its next steps, stressing that US military capabilities remain significantly stronger.
“Iranians should understand there is no comparison between our capabilities and theirs,” he said, adding that the United States remains fully prepared for any escalation.
Hegseth also said the US is closely monitoring Iran’s military movements, including attempts to recover and reposition missile launchers damaged during previous strikes.
“We know what assets you are moving,” he said, adding that while Iran may be trying to restore its capabilities, the United States is rebuilding with greater strength.
He reiterated that Iran would not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons under any circumstances and described threats to target commercial shipping as “piracy,” not control.
The US defence chief also said the American navy maintains control over maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and confirmed that the blockade would continue as long as necessary.
He added that Washington would welcome support from other countries to ensure the Strait remains open and secure, expressing hope that Iran would choose diplomacy over confrontation.
